Railway Board is the apex body of the Indian Railways, functioning under the Ministry of Railways, Government of India.

Zonal Railways are the administrative divisions of Indian Railways, each responsible for managing rail operations in a specific geographical region. Indian Railways is divided into 18 Zonal Railways and each zone is headed by a General Manager (GM) who reports to the Railway Board.

Indian Railways has eight main production units responsible for manufacturing locomotives, coaches, and wheels.
