Metropolitan Transport Directorate deals with the following:

Processing of survey reports and sanction of works under MTP plan head including sanction of estimates, monitoring of progress of works, submission of periodical reports to ministry of Program implementation/Cabinet Secretariat/Planning Commission.

|
|
i.
|
East West Metro corridor Project of KMRCL (Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation Limited).
|
|
ii.
|
Issues and Projects of State Joint Venture companies.
|

Metro Rail Projects other than those implemented by MoR-
|
|
i.
|
Nodal directorate for all the technical planning and safety issues related to Metro Rail/RRTS projects being executed by MoHUA and also by the State Governments.
|
|
ii.
|
Liaison with RDSO to deal with references from MoHUA/Metro Rail Administrations in regard to technical aspects of Metro/RRTS projects.
|
|
iii.
|
Scrutiny of project reports and other technical aspects of the upcoming Metro/RRTS systems in the country in consultation with the concerned directorates.

The Metro Railway (Construction of Works) Act 1978.
|
|
ii.
|
The Kolkata Metro Railway (Operation and Maintenance) Temporary Provision Act, 1985.

National Capital Region Planning Board-
|
|
i.
|
Liaison with NCRPB for proposals formulated by the Board for the Rail projects in NCR region.
|
|
ii.
|
Nodal directorate for the issues related to National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), an SPV formed for the purpose of implementation of Rapid Rail Transit System in the NCR region.
