This module assigns the traffic demand over the Indian Railways network based on the capacity, congestion levels and Path Set as generated  from the FPM (the supply side) and the traffic forecasts available from the Traffic Forecasting Module (the demand side).

The Traffic Assignment Module uses non-linear programming. The algorithm aims at minimizing total cost over the network while assigning traffic in a manner that demand is satisfied; in essence, there is no unmet demand. Multiple runs of TAM using different traffic forecasts and investment portfolios (scenarios) can be undertaken to analyze the system wide impact of these investment packages.
