                             SUB:   Revision in the freight classification of selected commodities


1.0       The sanction of the Central Government is accorded to revise the classification of certain selected commodities namely Coal, Cement, Clinker, Iron Ore, Limestone & Dolomite, Gypsum, Bauxite and Manganese Ore. The details of the existing and the revised classification of these commodities are given below:

 2.0              The revised classification for Iron Ore, Limestone & Dolomite, Gypsum, Bauxite and Manganese Ore will be applicable to the entire group of commodities under these heads as notified vide Railway Board’s letter No. TCR/1078/2003/1 dated 27.03.2003 under Rates Instruction No.11 of 2003. 

3.0              In the case of Coal, the revised classification will be applicable to the entire group of commodities under the mainhead – Coal (For Public and non Government Railway) as mentioned in the Goods Tariff No.43 Part 1, Vol.II namely Coal shale, Coke soft, Coking coal washed, Lignite, Low ash High volatile steam coal, Non coking coal washed, Patent fuel, Riddling, Run off Mines (ROM) coal, SLV steam coal, SLV Slack Coal, Imported Coking coal, Imported Steam Coal, Coal dust, Coal/Coke Briquettes and also Charcoal Fuel which are presently classified at Class-130 for trainload movement and at Class-135 for wagonload movement. 

4.0              This issues with concurrence of Finance Directorate in the Ministry of Railways. 

5.0              The revised classification will be effective from 27th November 2004. 

6.0              Necessary instructions may be issued to all concerned for taking immediate action in this regard. 

7.0              Receipt of this letter may please be acknowledged.
