General Managers, Sub: Permissible carrying capacity of different types of wagons 1.0 Instructions regarding the permissible carrying capacity of different types of wagons have been issued from time to time. As per Rule No.701(6) (ii) of IRCA Goods Tariff No.41 Pt.I Vol.I, commodities for which the notified minimum weight condition is carrying capacity, the minimum weight for charge for such commodities, has been specified when loaded in different types of wagons. 2.0 Further, in terms of Board’s letter No.TCR/1394/2004/2 dated 29.07.2004 (Rates circular No.22 of 2004), the permissible carrying capacity of all loose/bulk commodities presently charged at carrying capacity (CC) in BOXN/BOXNHS wagons, has been enhanced from CC to CC+2 tonnes. Board’s letter No.TCR/1394/99/15 dated 23.05.2001 specifies the chargeable carrying capacity for CC commodities loaded in BOXNHA wagons as 60.1 tonnes. 3.0 Recently some new wagons such as BOST, BCXN, BCNAHS, BOBSN, BOBY, BOBYN etc. have been introduced on Indian Railways, for which the minimum weight for charge for commodities presently charged at CC, was to be notified. 4.0 The sanction of the Central Government is hereby accorded to fix the permissible carrying capacity as 55.5 tonnes for BCXN wagon; 58.8 tonnes for BCNAHS wagon; CC+2 tonnes for BOBSN, BOBY and BOBYN wagons and CC+3 tonnes for BOST wagon. Accordingly, the commodities presently charged at CC will now be charged at the permissible carrying capacity for these wagons as mentioned herein. 5.0 In view of the above, Rule 701(6) (ii) of IRCA Goods Tariff No.41 Pt.I Vol.I may be modified accordingly by IRCA. 6.0 The permissible carrying capacity of different types of wagons, as notified from time to time, as well as the above mentioned new wagons are summarized for ready reference in a table appended to this letter. For those wagons, which are not mentioned in the appendix, the existing permissible carrying capacity continue to apply unchanged. 7.0 This issues with the concurrence of Finance Directorate in the Ministry of Railways. 8.0 The instruction for fixation of permissible carrying capacity for the newly introduced wagons mentioned in para 4.0 above, will come into force with immediate effect. 9.0 All concerned may be advised accordingly and acknowledge receipt of this letter.
