Dear Shri (CCMs
of all Zonal Railways),
Sub:- Rounding off of
Chargeable Distance:
Rationalization of charging
of fares and freight.
Hon’ble MR, while presenting the Railway Budget for 2004-05 announced the
rationalized procedure for rounding off of the chargeable distance. The
pronouncement made in para 122 of the Budget Speech is reproduced below:
“In order to remove anomalies in the method
of arriving at the chargeable distance for fare and freight by different
zonal railways, the total distance will be rounded off to the next higher
kilometer only once at the end, instead of multiple rounding off at
intermediate stages. This rationalization will bring uniformity in
charging of fare and freight.”
In this context, please refer to Board’s message of even number dated
24/27.09.2004 wherein it was advised that the rationalized procedure of
charging fares and freight shall come into force from 1st
January, 2005. I would request that you may personally ensure that
implementation of the above procedure takes place without any hitch.
Compliance report may be sent for information of Board.
With best wishes,
Yours sincerely,
(D.R.SHARMA)
